MacSharry calls for UK ‘eat out’ scheme to be introduced in Ireland

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is calling on the government to introduce a scheme similar to one already operating in the UK that helps boost business for restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Under the UK scheme, diners can get half-price meals every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during August. The discount is capped at ten pounds per person and does not apply to alcohol.

Deputy Marc MacSharry says such a scheme would encourage people pop out for a meal and drink while still adhering to public health guidelines.
