MacSharry: Cutting child benefit to people going abroad is ‘mean-spirited and wrong’

A Sligo/Leitrim TD has questioned the cutting of child benefit to some people after they were questioned at airports while going abroad.

About 2,000 people going abroad have had their Covid-19 payment stopped.

But speaking in the Dail last night, Fianna Fail Deputy Marc MacSharry described the cutting of child benefit — which is available to everyone — as mean-spirited and wrong.

He called on Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys to have her department examine the situation.
