Gardai are investigating how an active Sligo GAA player’s name was allegedly signed on an application form for a postal voting ballot without the player’s knowledge.
What is claimed to be a doctor’s ‘signature’ was also on the application.
It’s part of an investigation that began following last year’s local elections as a result of the suspicious number of postal ballots granted for those with a disability in the Ballymote/Tubbercurry electoral area.
The Sunday Business Post reported yesterday that the GAA player concerned has been interview by gardai in recent weeks.
The investigation followed a complaint by Fine Gael.
Also, at a meeting of Sligo County Council last July, councillors unanimously passed a motion calling for a garda investigation.
