Sligo restaurateur says what’s really needed is VAT reduction

The Sligo-based former president of the Restaurants Association of Ireland says a reduction in the VAT rate would be far more beneficial to restaurants than the introduction of a refund or subsidy voucher scheme for meals.

Anthony Gray, who owns and operates Una Bhan and Hooked restaurants in Sligo, also says the new voucher scheme, which is not coming into force until September, also seems convoluted.

He insists reducing the VAT rate should have been the way to go.
