Bohan: Bonet flooding overshadowed by Drumkeeran landslide

Leitrim councillors are seeking a meeting between the Office of Public Works, Leitrim County Council and others involved in the maintenance of the River Bonet outside Dromahair.

It’s after recent flooding in which a house was flooded and a woman had to be rescued from her car.

Several councillors, including Independent Councillor Felim Gurn and Sinn Fein Councillor Padraig Fallon, had motions on flooding of the Bonet and its tributaries at this week’s meeting of representatives from Manorhamilton Municipal District.

Fianna Fail Councillor Mary Bohan said it’s a serious issue that hasn’t been adequately highlighted because it happened at the same time as the landslide on Shass Mountain outside Drumkeeeran.

Flooding of the River Bonet has again become an urgent issue, 30 years after it was in top-of-the-tray file on the desk of former Agriculture Minister Ray MacSharry.

Councillor Bohan says its now a very serious issue again.
