Donegal schools having difficulty in getting SNA hours

SNA number of schools in County Donegal have been experiencing difficulty in recent weeks in getting Special Needs Assistant hours allocated for children who have been described as in desperate need of such help.

It’s been claimed that some schools that have applied for SNA support have been refused, and have been told that a review will be carried out as soon as possible after the schools resume in September or October.

Donegal Sinn Fein Deputy Doherty Pearse Doherty says it means it has to be proved the current system isn’t working for a child in the classroom before the much-needed help becomes available.

And he says it is causing ‘untold stress’ for parents, principals and teachers who are tryig to work around the problem.
