Covid vaccine: Sligoman Mike Ryan of WHO says there’s still a long way to go

The World Health Organisation says there’s still a long way to go to develop a vaccine for Covid-19, despite an apparent breakthrough.

Oxford University’s initial research into a potential jab for the virus has shown promising results.

Healthy volunteers, involved in early-stage clinical trials, experienced a strong immune reaction.

South Sligo native Dr Mike Ryan, from the WHO, says more research is needed but welcomes the progress.

Meanwhile, Sligo, which has had 148 cases of the virus, is now nine days without a new case.

Leitrim has had 83 cases and Donegal 472.

There were no more deaths from the virus yesterday while there were six new cases in the country.
