Armed Response Unit must remain in Sligo

A local Councillor has called for the armed response unit to be permanently in Sligo

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo Drumcliffe Municipal Area, Cllr Thomas Walsh has made the calls after the ARU has been based in Sligo since the 20th March.

This unit is normally based in Ballyshannon, Donegal but has been split since the beginning of Covid-19 with half the unit operating out of Sligo.

Cllr. Walsh says it’s is vital that the option of armed assistance to unarmed Gardaí working in Sligo is rapidly available if the need arises.
