Sligo Rovers beat Galway Utd in friendly



Sligo Rovers beat Galway United 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in their opening friendly match behind closed doors, ahead of the restart of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Under-19 player Mark Byrne, who was promoted to the first-team squad earlier this year, was the game’s matchwinner as he slotted home his first ever senior goal for the club, following Jesse Devers’ cross in the second-half.

The game also marked a first senior appearance for 16-year-old Darragh Reilly. The teenager was introduced in the second-half. Darragh captained the Republic of Ireland under-16 team last season.

Rovers were without their overseas players – as they complete their quarantine period after returning to Ireland earlier this month.
