Retail Banks misleading Ministers on holiday payments

The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Finance Pearse Doherty TD has criticised the retail banks for what he describes as ‘wilfully misinforming’ government ministers regarding the charging of interest on payment breaks.

The Donegal TD was commenting after a story in the Business Post reported that the five retail banks told former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe that the regulator required banks to charge interest on Covid-19 payment breaks.

The Donegal TD says such a suggestion is “not true”.

Speaking to Ocean FM Deputy Doherty says that such a move from the Banks after they were propped up by the tax payer during the last recession will not endear them to the public.
