Over 50 reports of livestock attacks since March



Gardaí received over 50 reports of livestock being attacked by dogs since March.

Incidents have been reported across the north west region including one in Co. Leitrim where seven sheep were injured.

In this instance, the owner was identified, paid damages to the farmer and the dog was put down.

Owners can be held liable for the actions of their pets and can receive a fine of up to €600 and one month in prison.

Farmers are also within their rights to shoot any animal that is a threat to their livestock.
