Sligo Traveller Support Group back calls to tackle racism

Sligo Traveller Support Group are backing calls for the incoming government to tackle discrimination and racism across Ireland.

A number of traveller organisations have signed the document expressing their solidarity and support of the black communities in Ireland including other minorities such as Traveller and Roma.

A survey conducted by Behaviour and Attitudes over a 2 year period found that only 9% of settled people would be happy for a traveller to marry into their family while only 35% said they would ‘avoid’ a traveller person.

Spokesperson with Sligo Traveller Support Group is Jamie Murphy.

He says we need enforceable hate crime legislation.
