Leitrim Councillor hits out at ‘scandalous’ use of tax payers money



A North Leitrim Councillor has described as ‘scandalous’ the State having to meet the shortfall to private toll operators, as a result of a drop in traffic volumes during the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Sinn Fein have received confirmation from Transport Infrastructure Ireland that the taxpayer will have to pay somewhere in the region of at least €9 million, to private companies that have witnessed a reduction in commuter numbers since the lockdown.

 

 

Sinn Fein Councillor, Padraig Fallon claims there are many important issues that need investment and prioritisation post-Covid-19.

 

The Manorhamilton Municipal District Councillor says the funding should go to projects such as Public Lighting, footpaths and Local Road Improvement Schemes.
