Funding to carry out maintenance works on the Metal Man navigational beacon at Rosses Point has been allocated.
€25,000 has been given under the Historic Structures Fund to Sligo County Council for the repair works which is to be matched by the local authority.
The 12 foot tall structure has been in place since 1821.
Speaking to OceanFM News, local Independent Councillor, Marie Casserly, says the works are aimed to be fininshed by the end of the Summer.
