Hostilities between local Fianna Fáil and Green Party Members intensifies

Government formation talks will continue today following yesterday’s ‘constructive’ meeting between the leaders of Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and the Greens.

There was no reports of a breakthrough, with outstanding issues, including around the pension age and finance, still to be worked out.

Meanwhile locally the war of words between a top ranking green party member and Leitrim Fianna Fáil County Councillors has intensified.

The National Coordinator of the Green Party and former election candidate Bláithín Gallagher has described the Leitrim Fianna Fáil Councillors comments in relation to her Party’s rural policies as ‘disingenuous’.

The six elected Leitrim Fianna Fail Councillors contacted  Party leader Michael Martin last week and urged him not to enter government with the Green Party over their fears and instead consider Sinn Fein as an alternative option for a national government to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bláihtin Gallagher says Fianna Fáil were never serious about forming a government with Sinn Fein and their long tenure in government over many years has not benefited rural Ireland.
