Fire services being stretched to deal with forest fires



The acting chief fire officer in Sligo has issued warnings to the general public in relation to the dangers of gorse fires.  She claims resources that could be used to deal withe serious road traffic accidents are being used to fight gorse fires across the the county.

 

Sligo Fire Service were called to deal with a large forest Dromore West over the Bank Holiday Weekend

 

Mayo Fire Service personnel and a Coillte helicopter were also deployed to tackle the blaze.

 

A number of other fires also were also started in the region in recent days.

 

Marion Coakley says considerable resources were deployed over the weekend and as a result it was a challenge to have fire personnel available to attend other incidents such as road traffic accidents.
