Leitrim economic recovery could be hampered by planning permission difficulties

Difficulties in relation to planning permission in Leitrim could well impact on the success of the county’s economy emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic.

That’s according to the Sligo/Leitrim TD Martin Kenny.

The Sinn Fein TD had introduced an amendment to the Local Government Act, which would permit local authorities to grant a waste water discharge licence to applicants wanting to build one-off rural houses in the County where the percolation test has failed.

Deputy Kenny’s amendment had reached committee stage of the last Dáil, but, lapsed when the Dáil was dissolved.

The Sin Fein TD says with more people now interested in relocating and working remotely in the future, the difficulties with planning could negatively impact on the County’s ability to prosper in the future.
