Local charities get a ‘kick’ out of Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA fundraiser

The Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA club in west Sligo is reflecting on a momentous weekend after raising a staggering €14,200 for Diabetes Ireland and North West Hospice – with the figure still rising.
A 24-hour Kickathon, involving members and management, former and present, of the club’s intermediate football team, along with their families, started at 2pm on Saturday and finished at 2pm on Sunday. Of the €14,200 raised, some €11,000 came in during this 24-hour period.
The event was split into 48 half-hour-long timeslots, with participants dotted all around the country and the world. Some of the international locations included Toronto, Christchurch, Sydney, London and New York. Those taking part kicked the ball to a family member or against a wall for the thirty minutes, sending back video clips to be uploaded to social media before ‘kicking the ball on’ to the next participant.
The money raised by the event, which was coordinated by John Paul Carden, will be split between the two charities.
