Sligo could be racing again in June

Horse Racing Ireland has confirmed that the sport will resume behind closed doors on June 8th.

The news was broken on Twitter at lunchtime on Friday by Fine Gael TD Peter Burke.

HRI has welcomed news of the return, which comes three-weeks ahead of schedule.

It will publish a fixture list for the month of June on Sunday.

Sligo Races is waiting to see if it will have a race meeting on HRI’s rescheduled fixture list next month.

The course at Cleveragh. was scheduled to have nine race meetings in 2020.

The first of those, on May 3rd, didn’t happen because of the Covid emergency.

Sligo was due to host an evening meeting on June 16th – but it’s not yet known if that date will still be part of the ‘closed doors’ racing schedule.
