Co-option of new Councillor to be deferred

The planned co-option of a new councillor onto Sligo County Council this morning is due to be deferred.

The new councillor will take the place of Sinn Fein councillor, Chris MacManus, who was recently selected as a Midlands-North West MEP, and was forced to resign his council seat.

The co-option is included as an item on the agenda for the meeting, but Ocean FM news understands that the Sinn Fein party have to hold a convention before deciding on who will take the vacant seat.

This morning’s meeting is the first meeting of the council since the Covid 19 restrictions came into place, and will be held at the Knocknarea Arena at IT Sligo to comply with social distancing.
