The government have been called on to immediately provide increased supports for older people affected by Covid-19.
The calls come following the decision by Age Action and the Red Cross to close the application process for the Covid-19 Hardship Fund due to the volume of applications.
It’s understood that over 10,000 applications on behalf of older people.
The original deadline was the end of August.
Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny says the volume of demand show’s that many are struggling and the Government need to put a fund in place for older people that are struggling at present.
