Sligo/Leitrim TD Marian Harkin has welcomed the decision to re-open marts for the movement of stock.
The new agreement will allow for both the movement of stock while also protecting and preventing the spread of the virus through marts with the introduction of a number of specific guidelines.
Sligo Leitrim Independent TD, Marian Harkin had requested the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed last week in the Dáil to look at possible mechanisms to allow trade to restart in the livestock marts
In welcoming the latest development, Deputy Harkin says there is a sense of relief among the farming community right now that livestock mart management have been issued with guidance to allow them to reopen the livestock marts on a limited basis.
