TD Frank Feighan backs decision to close livestock marts



Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan has said that the closure of livestock marts nationwide, is an unfortunate but necessary short-term measure to take during the COVID 19 Emergency.

Deputy Feighan says the department of agriculture, food and marine is working with stakeholders on contingency measures, to ensure that, as far as possible, livestock sales are facilitated without the need for the normal attendance and auction ring process.

He says that in the context of the major public health emergency, any public auction of livestock which is likely to attract a gathering of people has to be banned:
