Closure of Marts represents a major blow to the Agri sector

The decision by the Government to ask all livestock marts to close has been described as a serious blow to the local Agri sector.

The closures present huge issues for farmers who now have no outlets to sell livestock.

New efforts are under way in the Department of Agriculture to try and devise a system to sell livestock.

Emer McGuinness is the manager of the Donegal Co-op Livestock Mart.

She says the closures of Marts is disappointing for farmers particularly after the marts had introduced a number of measures themselves to prevent the spread of Covid- 19
