Ireland need bigger slice of EU Covid-19 fund

A Midlands/North West MEP is calling for a re-examination of how European Union funding is distributed to countries for fighting the coronavirus.

MEP Chris MacManus said documents he has seen show Ireland will benefit by only €3m from 65-billion euro crisis funding from the EU.

MacManus, a former Sligo Sinn Fein councillor who recently succeeded Matt Carty as MEP for the region, has now been appointed a member of the EU Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Chris MacManus says there’s a need for a reappraisal of the distribution of funding based on each country’s needs.
