Local TD urges all financial institutions to offer mortgage relief

A Sligo/Leitrim TD says he hopes other financial institutions will follow the lead of the main banks in giving relief to mortgage holders who face difficulty in their repayments because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Yesterday evening, following a meeting between Finance Minister Paschal Donohue and the CEOs of the main banks, a so-called ‘three-month payment holiday’ was announced for mortgage holders.

Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael Deputy Frank Feighan says he now wants to see the same measures introduced for renters and for people living in local authority houses.

He has also called on credit unions in Sligo, Leitrim, south Donegal and north Roscommon to be flexible toward members in genuine financial difficulty.

Deputy Feighan told Ocean FM News that the measures announced are a good start and he added the government will try to address all eventualities in what is a situation that is evolving every hour, every day.
