Several warnings in place for the north west as Storm Jorge hits



There’s a warning of ‘treacherous’ conditions for the north west as Storm Jorge lands.

Several wind, rain and snow/ice warnings are in place throughout the day, with authorities advising people not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

A Status Orange Wind warning for Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal comes into affect from 12 noon today and remains in place until 3am Sunday morning.

Met Eireann are predicting winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80km/h with gusts of 110 to 130km/h, possibly higher in very exposed areas with an elevated risk of coastal flooding.

While a Status Red Wind Warning’s been issued for Clare and Galway this afternoon – gusts of up to 145 kilometres per hour are expected.
