New GAA President is Sligo New York clubman



Larry McCarthy was elected as the GAA’s new President on Friday night at Annual Congress in Croke Park.

McCarthy, who’s a native of Bishopstown in Cork is the first overseas Uachtarán in the Association’s 136-year history.

He beat Armagh’s Jarlath Burns in the final count by 142 votes to 132.

McCarthy is a former New York GAA chairman and is a member of the Sligo New York Club in the Big Apple.

He works as a lecturer at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, and his area of expertise is sports marketing.

McCarthy was nominated for the role by the Sligo New York GAA Club.

He will begin his three-year tenure in 12 months time.
