Animal collection strike will impact on local farmers

The Animal Collectors Association have commenced strike action today in a dispute over ‘the new fallen animal scheme’.

From today there will be no service to collect the fallen animal, farmesr will have no option but to transport dead animals to the various Knackery yards as they cannot bury the dead animals on their land.

Sligo IFA Chairperson Kathleen Henry says transporting the remains of fallen animals will present a number of challenges for farmers

The Department of Agriculture did yesterday try to avert the impasse by offering support to the knackeries for the disposal fallen animals under 48 months.

However this does not seem to be a game changer for the various animal collection agencies according to the Sligo Chair of the IFA.
