Over 200 trees felled by Sligo County Council but no replacements

Sligo County Council has felled more than 200 trees in the past three years but has not planted any replacement trees.

However, councillors have been told the council intends to plant a significant number of native trees in the future.

The issue of how many trees the council has felled and replaced was raised at the February monthly meeting of the council by Cllr Chris MacManus.

The meeting heard the council felled 40 trees in 2017, 120 in 2018 and 65 last year.

The council intends to plant 40 trees this year and 100 in 2021.
