Fine Gael’s Joe McHugh has retained his seat.
The event was broadcast live on OceanFM at the Donegal constituency count centre in the Aura Centre, Letterkenny.
The outgoing Education Minister received 7,621 first preferences and ended on 12,104, which was less than the required quota of 12,909 however as there were three candiates and seats remaining, he was elected.
