Households in the NW among least wealthy nationally

Households in the north west are among the least wealthy in the country.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show the median wealth of people in the west and northern regions is just under €147,000, compared to the national number of almost €185,000.

A households’s wealth is calculated by subtracting debt owed such as a mortgage or personal loan from the value of assets such as property, cars and jewellery.

Stephen Lee is from the CSO.

He says even though people in the north west generally own more land than their eastern counterparts, the value of the land itself is worth less.
