Dead, abandoned horses found in Leitrim forest

The Animal Warden Service is calling on members of the public to stop dumping live horses near Annadale in Co. Leitrim

As part of an on going investigation, over 30 horses and donkeys have been found in Drumcong forest over the past 12 months.

2 horses were seized this week under the Animal Health and Welfare Act and taken into care. One horse was trapped in 2 feet of bogland. After a determined effort from the ISPCA, the horse had to be put down as it was too weak to stand up.

Another horse carcass was located close by in a ditch with it body cut open.

Cillian Costigan, who is the animal warden in Leitrim, explains what they discovered and how the public can help.
