O’Hara puts forward proposal to solve pensions crisis



A Sligo/Leitrim general election candidate says there’s been a lot of talk about the pensions crisis but little in the way of a solution.

Independent Bernie O’Hara is proposing that a solution could be found by the State pension fund buying up debt that is currently being taken up at massive discounts by vulture funds in a scheme that would be managed by county councils.

She says this would help hard-pressed people in debt by reducing payments and extending their time to pay, while profits would result in there being enough money for the pension age to remain the same.
