€4.5 million will be made available to local authorities by the Minister for Tourism Transport and Sport, Shane Ross. The funding will be used for feasibility studies to help Greenway projects such as the Sligo Leitrim North Counties Railway and the Sligo Greenway projects to become shovel ready.
The funding will be used for Environmental Impact Statements, planning works, design and consultants reports.
Sligo Independent Councillor Marie Casserly who has been working on securing funding for the local projects.
Cllr Casserly says the funding will be huge boost to local authorities and also confirmed that the local Councils will not be required to provide match funding when it comes to drawing down the funding.
