Orange weather alert issued for north west

Met Eireann has issued an Orange weather warning for the north west.

The wind warning is for counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal along with Mayo and Galway as Storm Brendan makes its way towards the country.

It comes into effect from 7am on Monday and remains in place until midnight, with a separate yellow warning for other counties also coming into effect at the same time.

While Donegal Pier will be closing from 6pm this evening due to expected high tides, cars will also not be able to park in the area.

The north west appears to be getting the worst of the storm, as all other counties along the west coast are under an orange alert, but only until 3pm Monday.

The forecaster says gusts of up to 130 km/h are expected, and there’s a significant risk of coastal flooding.
