8 occupational assaults in the NW on members of Gardai in 2019



52 Gardaí missed at least a month’s work last year after being seriously assaulted on duty.

According to Freedom of Information figures, a total of 162 officers missed at least a day because of an attack.

In the Sligo/Leitrim district for 2019 there has been 3 recorded assaults, with officers taking as long as 3-6 months off work with injuries such a bruises/grazes/bites and internal injuries recorded.

In Donegal, 5 members of the Gardai have reported to have been assaulted with no one taking any days off but receiving injuries consisting of bruises/grazes or bites.
