Sligo ranked 14th in latest IBAL survey

Sligo is again clean to European Norms according to the final litter survey of 2019 by business group Irish Business Against Litter.

Sligo is ranked in 14th position in the ranking of 40 towns and cities, a drop on last year’s best-ever 6th place finish.

The survey showed overall litter levels in Ireland’s towns were up on a year ago.

The An Taisce report for Sligo says  seven out of the ten sites surveyed received the top litter grade and no heavily littered sites – an improvement on the previous survey.

Examples of the very good sites included Sligo Retail Park, the river amenity at Rockwood Parade, Sligo Court House and O’Connell Street –

The report went on to add that the footpath works didn’t impact in any negative way on O’Connell Street.  The report added that these sites were not just good with regard to litter but also in terms of presentation and maintenance.

Peter Tiernan from the Sligo Tidy Towns association says despite the drop from last year, it’s still a good result for Sligo.

Letterkenny is ranked at 18th and is also deemed to cleaner to European norms.
