The tradition of the Wren alive and well in north west

Today, St Stephen’s Day, is also known as the Day of the Wren.

People from across the region will travel from house to house or maybe pub to pub, singing, playing music and reciting poems or rhymes.

And although it’s a dying tradition, it still continues in some areas.

One man preparing to go ‘Out on the Wren’ this evening is north Sligo historian and author Joe McGowan, from Mullaghmore.

He says it’s more difficult to keep the tradition alive.

Joe Will also be keeping the tradition going in Tullaghan this evening.
