Christmas, New Year warning from Coast Guard, RNLI

The Coast Guard and the RNLI are calling on people to be careful over the Christmas and New Year periods if they are involved in any water-based or coastal activities.

Coast Guard Rescue coordination centres, including Malin Head in Donegal, will be fully staffed over the Christmas period, as will day and night helicopter search and rescue services.

Irish Coast Guard Head of Operations Gerard O Flynn and RNLI Lifesaving Manger Sean Dillon have urged people involved in water activities or going near the coast to be safety conscious, plan activities carefully, and tell friends and colleagues where they’re going.

The RNLI and Coast Guard have also issued a joint ‘thank-you’ to their search and rescue teams for their efforts during the past year.
