Mona McSharry claims national shortcourse title

One week after winning a bronze medal at the European Shortcourse Swimming Championships, Sligo’s Mona McSharry was among the medals again on Friday when she gold in the women’s 100 metres breaststroke final at the Irish National Shortcourse Championships in Dublin.

Her winning time of  1:05.72 was .22 seconds quicker than her Irish teammate Niamh Coyne.

The Grange girl followed that up later by helping the Irish women’s freestyle relay team to set a new Irish senior record

McSharry is one of 11 nominees for RTÉ’S Young Sportsperson of the Year for 2019. The winner will be announced on RTÉ1 this Saturday night.
