Summerhill lose Connacht final on penalties



There was disappointment for Summerhill College senior gaelic footballers on Wednesday when they lost the Connacht Colleges senior ‘A’ league final.

The sides finished level at 1-9 to 0-12 after extra time. St Gerald’s won the shootout 3-1.

The College had led by 1-3 to 0-5 at half-time with Mark Walsh scoring Summerhill’s goal. They had extended their lead to three points at one stage in the second half but St Gerald’s finished the half stronger to level the game after 60 minutes (0-9 to 1-6).

In extra-time. there was never more than a single point between the teams with Summerhill’s Eoghan Smith converting a free near the end of extra time to send the final to penalities, which St Gerald’s won.
