School secretaries represented by the Fórsa trade union are to recommence industrial action following recent discussions at the Workplace Relations Commission .
The union’s School Secretary branch executive has approved a proposal to hold a national one day strike on Friday 10th January 2020.
This action will be followed by an escalated action under which school secretaries will resume their work-to-rule, withdrawing from work on public service systems and databases.
They will also refuse to carry out the functions of public servants.
Fórsa Union member and Manorhamilton based school secretary Frank Considene says the Department of Education and Skills’ refusal to address a two-tier pay system is central to the dispute and a recent offer of a pay increase of 1.5% has been described as an insult to Forsa members.
