Fianna Faill Spokesperson on Sport says grassroots football shouldn’t pay the price of FAI mismangement

UPDATE: An emergency Oireachtas committee meeting on the FAI’s financial situation has been postponed, after the association said it wouldn’t be appearing.

Grassroots football shouldn’t pay the price of FAI mismanagement.

Fianna Fail Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport, TD Marc MacSharry, is making the comments in after it was found the FAI have a debt of €55m.

Minister for Sport, Shane Ross, will not be attending Wednesday’s emergency Oireactas Committee meeting that is to examine the FAI’s financial situation nor will the FAI.

In a statement the FAI says the focus of the Board remains the refinancing package to guarantee the future of the organisation and safeguard jobs as well as the appointment of an independent chairperson and directors.

Deputy MacSharry says it’s worrying times for the ground level staff across the country.

The Sligo/Leitrim TD also says that ‘all of football has suffered’ and we now need to rebuild an organisation that we need.
