Power outages across north west region as Storm Atiyah makes landfall

Power is out in a number of areas across the north west region this afternoon as Storm Atiyah makes landfall.

Heavy rain began in Donegal last night with the Orange Weather Warning coming into effect from 1pm this afternoon for counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

1,030 customers are affected in the Aughagad/Cashelgarran/Drumcliff region, 1,347 by Ballybofey/Stranorlar, 345 from Bundoran to Tullaghan, 847 around Kilybegs/Inver/Mountcharles, 246 around Mullaghmore, 99 around Donegal Town and 53 customers around Fintra.

The ESB say that power is expected to be restored between 2pm and 5pm in most areas, but this can change and more areas could be without power as the day progresses.

Met Eireann have also issued a Red Warning for Co. Kerry.

RNLI area life-saving manager, Brian O’Driscoll, says people also need to keep away from exposed coasts:
