McSharry breaks Irish record on route to second Euro final



Sligo’s Mona McSharry will be aiming to land her second medal of the European Short Course Championships in Glasgow on Saturday.

The Grange swimmer will be in the pool for the the 100m breastroke final.

McSharry smashed the Irish record to be the top qualifier from last night semi-finals, coming in a time of 1:04:36.

It was the 19-year-old’s first time under the 65 second mark with her previous record standing at 1:05.01.

McSharry, who trains at Marlins Swimming club in Ballyshannon, will be in the centre lane for Saturday’s final, which is expected to get underway at around 5:15pm.

The Sligo teenager is also a part of the Irish team which will competer in Mixed 4x50m Freestyle Relay final. She is joined on the team by Shane Ryan, Jordan Sloan and Danielle Hill.

The quartet posted a time of 1:32.18 for fourth in their heat and seventh overall and will contest Saturday’s final from lane one.

The mixed relay final will get underway at 6:50 pm.
