Sligo man fined €11,000 for deceiving a family over pony sale

A Sligo man has been fined €11,000 for deceiving a family over a pony sale.

36 year old Michael Kearins of Knockbeg, Collooney, was convicted of deception in April at Sligo Circuit Court.

The sale of a pony was agreed between Mr. Kearins and Businessman Sean Ewing in 2012, however, the court heard that a substitute pony was sent in it’s place.

Michael Kearins was due to be sentenced on November 21st but the case was adjourned due to him suffering a head injury after being thrown from a horse.

The case appeared before Sligo District Court yesterday where Judge Francis Comerford issued him the fine and gave him 30 months to pay.
