Controversial Bingo law changed following Dail vote

The government has backed down on a new law that critics say would have caused bingo halls to close around the country.

Sligo Leitrim Sinn Fein TD and Spokesperson on Justice, Martin Kenny, proposed an amendment to the Gaming and Lotteries Bill to change the prize money cap from 50% to 75%.

It received support from all parties.

The amendment follows protests in the north west and across Ireland this week, against the change.
