Fears ‘Text Alert’ schemes could disappear from north west if flat payments are introduced for communities

The Future of ‘Text Alert’ schemes in the northwest could be at risk if new flat payments have to be paid by Community Groups.

If the new changes are implemented Community will be forced to pay for the service whether it is used or not.

With many text alert groups consisting of volunteers, that don’t have a weekly income, the future of the schemes are now in doubt.

Manorhamilton MD Councillor Sean McDermott says the introduction of the charges are poorly timed as there are a lot of robberies taking place and a lot of the elderly feel very vulnerable especially those living in isolated rural areas.
