Sligo pipped again by Blackrock

There was last-minute heartbreak again for Sligo against Blackrock in Division 2B of the All-Ireland League on Saturday, as a late converted Blackrock try gave the visitors a narrow one-point win (27-26) at Hamilton Park in Strandhill.

It was cruel luck on Paddy Pearson’s side who had led for most of the contest.

First half tries from Calum Goddard and Mark Bulter helped give Sligo a 12-3 advantage at the interval.

The home side would add two more tries in the second half but Blackrock stayed in touch and were rewarded in the dying moments with a late try which was converted from the touchline.

The win takes Blackrock to the top of the AIl Division 2B table.

Blackrock ended Sligo’s promotion play-off hopes in similar fashion at the end of last season when they scored late to beat Sligo in a play-off semi-final in Dublin by a single point.

Saturday’s Division 2B results:
Sligo 26 Blackrock 27
Belfast Harlequins 38 Ballina 10
Corinthians 23 Greystones 21
Dungannon 0 Galwegians 17
Wanderers 12 Malahide 13.
